The Chemical Peel Rumour

Rumour: Chemical peels are an effective method for acne treatment.

Truth: This is true.

Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when pores are clogged by dead skin cells. Chemical peeling can be used to treat acne by removing the outermost layers of the skin through a process of injury to the skin. This encourages the development of new skin tissue.

Researchers in China published a study in BMJ Open to determine if chemical peels are a successful treatment for this kind of skin condition. The study involved eight different chemical peel treatments. Overall, researchers determined that chemical peels that are commonly used can treat mild to moderate acne. Also, researchers determined that the type of chemical peel used should be individualized to the patient. To read more about this study, click here.
