(1) (1828)  French neurologist Jules Bernard Luys is born. He studied the central nervous system and published the first photographic atlas of the nervous system and the brain.
(2) (1953) The first meeting for substance abusers and addicts, as part of the Narcotics Anonymous program, occurs in Southern California.
(3)  (1873) American gynecologist John Albertson Sampson is born. He studied endometriosis (a disease where tissue that normally grows within the uterus escapes and grows in another area) and had an artery (Sampson artery) named after him.
