(1) (1841) Swiss physician and medical researcher Emil Theodor Kocher is born. He won the 1909 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his contribution to the field of thyroid surgery.
(2) (1850) French physiologist Charles Richet is born. He is known for his work in anaphylaxis, which helped many researchers understand asthma and hay fever.
(3) (1900) German-born British physician and biochemist Hans Adolf Krebs is born. He is well-known for discovering two important chemical reactions, the urea cycle and the citric acid cycle, which allows the body to produce energy.
