(1) (1773) English polymath and physician Thomas Young is born. Described as “The Last Man Who Knew Everything”, Young contributed to the fields of vision, light, music and Egyptology. He hypothesized that colour perception is dependent on three different nerve fibres present in the retina.
(2) (1822) Baltic German chemist Carl Schmidt is born. He studied chemical changes in the blood associated with cholera, diabetes and arsenic poisoning.
(3) (1894) Austrian-American psychiatrist and physician Leo Kanner is born. He is remembered for his work on autism and its associated characteristics.
