(1) (1875) English pharmacologist and physiologist Henry Hallett Dale is born. He he shared the 1936 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on acetylcholine and its role in chemical transmission in nerve impulses.
(2) (1930) Spanish politician and physician Jordi Pujol i Soley is born. As a physician, he invented the antibiotic ointment Neobacitrin.
(3) (1961) French veterinarian, bacteriologist and immunologist Camille Guérin passes away. With Albert Calmette, she developed the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine for immunization against tuberculosis, a respiratory tract infection.
