(2) (1985) Rick Hansen, a Canadian paraplegic athlete, begins his circumnavigation around the globe in a wheelchair to raise awareness for spinal cord injury medical research.
(3) (1987) The Food and Drug Administration approves AZT (azidothymidine), an anti-AIDS drug.
