(2) (1901) One of the UK’s most well-known and controversial scientists, John Desmond Bernal, is born. He worked and published extensively on many science topics, including vitamin D, vitamin B, cholesterol, and the origin of life.
(3) (1930) American scientists and physicist George E. Smith is born. He invented the charge-coupled device, which is now used in digital imaging, important for taking photographs.
