(1) (1742) Swiss pastor and physiologist Jean Senebier is born. He is known for proving that plants use carbon dioxide to grow.

(2) (1856) Austrian neurologist and father of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud is born. Along with theories about the subconscious, he had many theories regarding child development and psychosexual development.

(3) (1896) Swedish medical physicist Rolf Maximilian Sievert is born. He is known for his contribution to the understanding of the biological effects of radiation.
