(1868) Romanian biologist, zoologist, speleologist Emil Racoviță is born. He was the first biologist to study arctic life, researching weather patterns and animal behaviours.  

(1873) American physician Sara Josephine Baker is born. She is known for her work in public health, focusing on infant mortality in impoverished areas.

(1874) Danish professor August Krogh is born. He won the 1920 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering the regulation of the skeletal muscles’ capillaries.
