(1922) South African cardiac surgeon Christiaan Barnard is born. He is known for performing the first successful human-to-human heart transplant.
(1947) Physician and retired NASA astronaut Margaret Rhea Seddon is born. As a physician, she conducted clinical research looking at the effects of radiation therapy on nutrition in cancer patients.
