(1) (1865)  British biochemist Arthur Harden is born. He shared the 1929 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his research on sugar fermentation and fermentative enzymes.
(2) (1928) An iron lung respirator is used for the first time at Children’s Hospital in, Boston.
(3) (1929) American author and child psychiatrist Robert Coles is born. He has written over 1300 articles on the moral, spiritual, and social sensibilities of children.
