(1) (1961) American pediatric surgeon and public health administrator Charles Everett Koop is born. He was the 13th Surgeon General of the United States.
(2) (1982) President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, proclaims a War on Drugs.
(3) (1984) The first successful infant heart transplant is done on “Baby Fae”, who  received a heart transplant from a baboon. She was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
