(1) (1826) French physician Philippe Pinel passes away. He made many contributions to the classification of mental disorders and is credited as being the first to describe the existence of schizophrenia.
(2) (1925) African-American scientist Emmett W. Chappelle is born. He is known for his work on bacteria, algae, and bioluminescence.
(3) (1927) American psychologist Lawrence Kohlberg is born. He is best known for developing his theory of moral stages of development in children.
