September 12, 2017:
(1) (1897) French scientist Irène Joliot-Curie is born. She shared the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1935 for discovering artificial radioactivity.
(2) (1916) China-born Eurasian physician, and author Han Suyin is born. Along with publishing many fiction and nonfiction books, she was also a physician at Nanyang University in Singapore.
(3) (1922) American research psychologist Mark Rosenzweig is born. Based on his animal studies, he discovered that children that were raised in the enriched environment were more likely to have increased cerebral cortex volume, showing that brain development does not stop at childhood.
